Now, if you’re anything like a lot of my personal training clients, you quite likely have a couple of sets of dumbbells lying around the house gathering dust. I’m sure I have a few sets somewhere. They’re a bit like treadmills. They seemed like a great idea at the time, but often they fall by the wayside after a little while. If you’ve been thinking about dusting them off but you’re not what to do, I have created a list of 20 dumbbell exercises you could work into a routine. Yay!

I will break the dumbbell exercises into the part of the body they are predominantly working. Here we go! 🙂

Chest Exercises

  • Chest Fly
  • V-Fly
  • Chest Press
  • Pullover

Back Exercises

  • Bent Over Row
  • Upright Row
  • Pullover
  • One Arm Row
  • Reverse Fly

Leg Exercises

  • Deadlifts
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Step Ups

Arm Exercises

  • Bicep Curls
  • Hammer Curls
  • Tricep Extension
  • Tricep Kickbacks
  • Shoulder Press
  • Lateral Raises
  • Anterior Raises

This is by no means a complete list of dumbbell exercises but it certainly shows they are quite versatile pieces of equipment. Dumbbells are definitely a great addition to your training kit if you’re trying to get a few pieces to help you exercise at home. Keep an eye out for sales so they don’t cost you a fortune.

You can even put together a little circuit of dumbbell exercises using this list if you like. Pick a couple from each list that you are comfortable with and perform 12-15 of each exercise a couple of times through. Be sure to do a little warm up before you start and take the time to stretch well afterward.
