Bodyweight Exercises to Do in the Park

Well, Ninjas!

The weather is starting to warm up and you’ll no doubt be spending a bit more time out and about in the sunshine either with kids or with friends. If you do have little ones, the park is often a great place to head during the warmer months. It gives you all a chance to stretch your legs and get some fresh air.

Heading to the park can be a great opportunity to do a few bodyweight exercises either with the kids or while you’re watching them play. It doesn’t have to be terribly structured or even intense but every little bit counts and it can be a way to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ so to speak. It can be challenging to exercise with the kids around so this can be a valuable opportunity.

So what exercise could you do in the park while you’re keeping an eye on the kids? Here are a shortlist of bodyweight exercises you could try while the kids play:

  • step ups (using a bench or any sturdy raised surface)
  • dips
  • elevated push ups (hands on a bench)
  • squats or sit to stand
  • stick ups
  • lunges
  • walk out or modified burpees
  • climbing (on the equipment itself)
  • walking or jogging

Another great park-based option is to play game with the kids. The kids will love it and it’s a great way to get some ‘fun’ exercise in. Some ideas include:

  • frisbee
  • cricket
  • footy
  • basketball
  • soccer
  • tiggy

If you’ve got a bit of space around you, the options really are endless. Use your imagination, get creative. You might be able to invent a whole new game with the help of the kids.

Don’t have kids? No reason why you can’t do many of these things with a friend or a group of friends in the local park. Get a little group of friends together and give it a go. See what you can come up with.
